There are very few people in this modern world who are immune from the side effects of the sheer attempt to keep up with everything in life. The secret to waking up refreshed, calm and feeling capable to tackle the daily demands? A smarter nighttime routine. Truth is, most of us spend our nights binge-watching TV shows, catching up on work, texting or late-night snacking—none of these are great for catching quality zzz’s.
The good news? Revamping your nighttime routine is easy, fun, and completely customizable. Here are some ways to reinvent your sleep by designing a nighttime routine that brings your mind and body to calm:
1. Prep Your A.M.
There’s no hiding the fact that most of us are trying to squeeze every last drop out of our wakeful hours which sends our minds into overdrive. Spend ten minutes at the end of each day swapping your mental notes for some quick planning—write down your top three areas of focus for the next day or plan/review your calendar and then close the book on your ‘to do’ list.
2. Luxe, Serene Essential oils
Inhale the aromatic scent of a wonderful night’s sleep. Essential oils are a power partner when it comes to encouraging a serene nightly bedtime ritual. Roman Chamomile, lavender, chamomile, and Evening Primrose work to relax the body and calm the mind and we personally love using them as part of a peaceful nightly bedtime ritual.
3. Cleanse Your Body
Taper down into rest mode with a warm, steamy shower or bath and then allow your body temperature to drop naturally after you get out—a cooler body temperature points the body in the direction of deeper, REM sleep (bonus relaxation points if you add a scoop of Epsom salts to your bath).
4. Unwind Your Mind
Bring closure to your day with your favorite wind-down activities like journaling, meditating, giving gratitude, coloring in, or some deep breathing exercises. Plug yourself out of the busy mind and into the grounded nature of the body and the breath as your mind takes a long, slow deep breath.
5. Stretch & Roll
Set aside at least five minutes for yoga or stretching each night—find a dimly-lit, quiet space in your home and get comfortable or try this 5-minute foam roll to relax before bed. Stretching and foam rolling literally roll away the tension and help your mind follow your body’s lead in slowing down.
6. Swap Blue Light for White Noise
When you play sleep sounds as a regular part of your nightly routine, it gives your body a cue that it’s time to head into the relaxation zone. White noise is also helpful for light sleepers or those who have trouble drifting off as it creates a noise masking effect.
Quality sleep is one of the most fundamental acts of self-care there is and revamping your nighttime routine goes a long way bringing your mind and body to calm, helping you feel more rested, less sluggish, and more productive to tackle those daily pressures. Make your bedtime the sweet ritual it was meant to be with our Drift & Dream Collection, and enjoy reinventing your ultimate calming and rejuvenating sleep cocoon.
