When the carefree summer days end it can be difficult to dive back into the school routine and associated madness! If you feel your heart rate rising just thinking about checking off items on the classroom supply list, packing healthy lunches, drop-off and pick-up logistics, not to mention wondering how you’re going to get your kids to wake up at 6 a.m. every day—you’re not alone.
From setting up evening routines to transitioning back into the back-to-school mindset, here’s how Nicole Neves, founder of Sequin Productions, and mother of two boys, manages the transition from go-slow summer days to schedules and homework:
1. What type of things will you miss about summer and what do you enjoy about your kids going back to school?
I’ll miss sleeping in a bit and not worrying about getting them to school on time LOL! Yes, our mornings are very chaotic during school but I LOVE when I see them learning new things when they go back—my oldest just started reading and it was the coolest moment to see him read a book last year.
2. How do you transition into a back-to-school mindset and routine?
Ahhh…I try staying on an early bed schedule for the boys. I also try to prep their lunches, backpack and my coffee the night before.
3. How do you manage your tension during the transition period?
Exercise and meditation!! Oh and wine.
4. Any tips or tricks to ease into the school year?
I use learning workbooks for the boys' grade level and have them work on it every other day to prep for school. Plus, again start trying to get the whole family up earlier and into the morning groove.
